PIERCING AFTERCARE GUIDE

Piercing Aftercare Instructions

  • Wait 8 weeks before changing the jewelry.

  • Wash your hands prior to cleaning your piercing

  • Clean your piercing 3 times a day with a sterile saline solution (I recommend NeilMed) morning, mid-afternoon, and at night before you go to bed and once a day with antibacterial soap. (Plain gold Dial soap works great.)

  • Spray your NeilMed on a Q-Tip and lightly clean around the front/back or top/bottom of your piercing.

  • When you are finished taking a shower/washing your face, be sure to thoroughly rinse your piercing to ensure no shampoo/conditioner/or soap residue are left on your piercing. Allow to air dry.

  • Make sure your sheets and towels are washed and changed weekly.

  • Clean hands and be sure to check threaded ends on your jewelry for tightness daily (righty-tighty, lefty-loosey.)

Oral Piercing Aftercare Instructions:

  • In addition to the basic aftercare instructions, you also want to rinse your mouth with mouthwash after you eat, drink, or smoke.

  • I recommend Biotene (alcohol free mouthwash) because you can use it as often as you’d like, or you can use plain Gold Listerine (max of 3 times a day due to alcohol content.)

Piercing DON’TS:

  • DO NOT twist, rotate, or push back and forth your jewelry. The more you touch your piercing, the more bacteria you introduce from your hands, the longer it takes to heal.

  • DO NOT use rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or ointments like A&D, bacitracin, or Neosporin to clean your piercings.

  • DO NOT put beauty products (makeup, lotion, sprays) directly on your healing piercing.

  • DO NOT change jewelry until the full 8 weeks has passed.

*Please keep in mind that some bleeding can occur during the first 24-48 hours of your piercing.

*During healing, some discoloration, itching, or discharge (whitish-yellow, not pus) can occur.

*A piercing may seem just fine before the whole healing process is done but that does not mean that it is fully healed. Please be patient and keep cleaning all the way to the end of the entire healing process.

*Avoid putting a healing piercing in a lake, pool, hot tub, ocean, etc. First protect your piercing by using a waterproof bandage.

*Always leave jewelry in. Your piercings can shrink or close quickly, even if you have had it for years. If you take it out, getting it back in later may be difficult or impossible.

Enjoy Your New Piercing!
